Free Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow UMD demo

Posted by Brandon Spencer
Syphon Filter Logan’s Shadow demo

Everyone seems to be thankful when we post an alert about a new PSP demo (ala the insanely popular God of War demo). So here’s a new one for ya. This offer came to me through the PlayStation Underground, so I thought I’d pass it along.

You can now get your hands on a free UMD demo of Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow. You can sign up to receive the Logan’s Shadow demo here. You will need to sign in with your Underground username/password. Don’t worry if you’re not a member yet - you can register there for free.

There’s no word on when you will get your demo disc. The God of War demo isn’t going to ship until the end of the summer, so the Logan’s Shadow disc may not arrive until fall.

In any case, act as quickly as possible. This offer is in limited supply.

Final Fantasy Dissidia trailer leaked

Posted by Brandon Spencer

What was suppose to be a Square-Enix.co.jp member exclusive, is now free for the world to view thanks to our good friends at Jeux-France.

The best part about the beautiful new trailer is the gameplay footage. We finally have some hard copy video of the action. The game definitely seems to have a Soul Calibur-like flow to it. In the video we see some of the characters - the Warrior of Light, Garland, Zidane, Kuja, and none other than Sephiroth himself! Enjoy the mysteriously sweet Dissidia video below!

All PSP firmware can be downgraded!

Posted by Brandon Spencer

The most common question I get on PSPGN is how do I downgrade firmware 3.x? Or can firmware 3.x be hacked? Well, I’m very excited to announce that all versions of PSP firmware (3.30, 3.40, even 3.50) will soon be able to be downgraded.

A new exploit has been found by the Noobz team in the original Lumines game that allows the PSP firmware to be cracked. Certainly, a copy Lumines is much easier to come by than an original copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories!

The downgrader for the exploit isn’t finished yet, so all we have at the moment is the “Hello World” application. However, a downgrader should be released shortly. Soon, the entire PSP community will be able to enjoy the sweet pleasures of a homebrew enabled system. We’ll let you know as soon as a downgrader becomes available!

Sony dispels PSP redesign rumors…

Posted by Brandon Spencer

… for now, anyways. There was a huge internet fiasco last week when new PSP “Lite” rumors surfaced. However, John Koller was quick to dispel the rumors on the official PlayStation Blog with this update. “We haven’t announced anything about a new PSP, much less one that would have any phone capabilities. As SCEA’s resident PSP guru, I’m thrilled to hear that there’s so much interest in the platform, but sorry folks, these reports floating around fall into the rumors/speculation category.”

The significant thing to note here is that this is coming from John Koller, Sony’s Senior Marketing Manager for the PSP. His job is literally to get people to go out and buy a PSP [or two]. If Sony did announce a PSP redesign now, then PSP sales would plummet until the new model was released. They want to keep selling the current model for as long as possible.

Also interesting to note is that he never says that a PSP redesign isn’t coming. He strategically phrases the post around this fact. Hopefully we’ll learn something new at this year’s E3.

Weekly best selling PSP games June 1 - June 7

Best selling psp games

Not a whole lot of variation in PSP software sales this week; just a bit of shuffling around. Pirates did manage to push its way into third place, but who didn’t see that one coming? Still, I’m amazed that 300 continues to outsell even Pirates, especially now that 300 has left theaters. So here it is, the most popular PSP games for the week of June 1st through June 7th:

1. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Publisher: Sony
Release Date: 2/14/2007

2. 300: March To Glory
Publisher: Eidos
Release Date: 3/2/2007

3. Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End
Publisher: Buena Vista
Release Date: 5/21/2007

4. Driver 76
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release Date: 5/9/2007

5. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Release Date: 10/30/2006

Runners up: Killzone Liberation and Prince of Persia: Rival Swords. Do you think that Pirates will outsell 300 this week? We’ll have to wait and see ;)

300 posts!

Hey everyone, I’m taking a break from the regular gaming buzz to celebrate our 300th post. PSPGN launched nearly 7 months ago with the goal of providing an independent PSP news source and an open community for PSP gamers.

Today, we reach the major milestone of 300 front-page articles. Hundreds of readers stop by PSPGN every day because they prefer our personal approach, wide-spectrum news, and featured segments. I just want to say thanks for sticking around everyone! You guys and gals are what keep PSPGN going!

In fact, we want to hear what you have to say. Soon we will be looking for new writers to join our team and write a daily, weekly, monthly, or one-time column. Not only do you get to voice your opinion, but it’s a great opportunity to promote your own blog or website. Stay tuned for more information later this week.

Thanks again everyone. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be writing here today. Here’s to another 300 posts! Join the party now in the PSPGN forums.
