Save $11 on Monster Hunter Freedom 2

Posted by Brandon Spencer

The PlayStation Portable has a lot of big titles coming in the next few months. Jeanne D’Arc and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 will be the first of many.

If you’re planning on buying either of the two games when they’re released at the end of this month, then you may want to preorder them and save $11 off retail price.

Both Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Jeanne D’Arc can be preordered from Overstock.com for a very reasonable 28.95 USD.

Disgae: Afternoon of Darkness looks great

The fan favorite strategy-RPG series Disgae will be making its PSP debute with Afternoon of Darkness. The game has yet to receive a US/UK release date, let alone a Japanese one. Afternoon of Darkness will be a remake of the original Disgaea, with totally revamed graphics and gameplay.

The most exciting addition is the new multiplayer support. I’m hoping for infrastructure, but Ad-Hoc would suffice just as well.

Tons of new Chains of Olympus info

Posted by Brandon Spencer

Ready at Dawn held a player chat this week to answer questions from fans about their upcoming games. The staff was overwhelmed with God of War: Chains of Olympus related questions. PSP FTW!

First of all, the game is still set to be released during the 2007 holiday season. No delays… yet.

Chains of Olympus takes place ten years before the first game. In this blast to the past, we will follow Kratos as he meets many characters from the PS2 series for the first time. The plot goes something like this: Kratos family is murdered, he renounces his service to Ares, and decides to instead serve the other gods of Olympus.

You will have some new weapon to choose from as well, with a “new twist on how they integrate into the storyline.” Fighting will be very similar to GoW II with counter attacks. Magic must be used against you before you can use it yourself.

More tidbits…
- The game has been in development since Daxter shipped.
- The game will dedicate some time to exploring Kratos’ human side
- There will be multiple difficulty settings
- The game will run at 30 frames per second
- Players will need to earn all their cheats.

Finally, Ready at Dawn had this to say: “You will play and experience an event that will change the course of the GoW mythology, that will take you far beyond where Kratos has ever gone before.” What could this mean?

Best selling PSP games July 8 - July 14

Posted by Brandon Spencer

Well, it’s been over a month since our last best selling segment. There has been a lot of changes on the list thanks to release of some big titles (and big movies). Final Fantasy secures the top spot this week:

1. Final Fantasy
Publisher: Square Enix
Release Date: 6/27/2007

2. Transformers: The Game
Publisher: Activision
Release Date: 6/20/2007

3. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
Publisher: UBI Soft
Release Date: 6/13/2007

4. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Publisher: Sony
Release Date: 2/14/2007

5. 300: March To Glory
Publisher: Eidos
Release Date: 3/2/2007

How did Ratchet & Clank and 300 manage to sneak their way into the top 5? Those two have been at it for months…

Meet the new PSP Slim

Posted by Brandon Spencer

E3 is almost over, but the excitement over Sony’s big announcements has just begun. The PSP redesign is for real, and will sport a 33% lighter, 19% slimmer, 100% shinier handheld.

PSP redesign

The new PSP will also have a much improved battery life and 480p video output. Perhaps your UMD movie collection will not go to waste after all! The good news is that - as promised - the slimmer PSP doesn’t downgrade the screen in any way.

The new PSP will be available in several different colors: Piano black, Ice Silver, Felicia Blue, Lavender Purple, Rose Pink and a limited edition white model with a Darth Vader overlay (I will do without, ty). The models will be released in bundles, including a 1GB memory stick with a movie or game. The black model, however, will only include the core system at a lower price.

The redesigned PSP will also feature improved data streaming abilities, which means shorter load times. The battery can also be charged via USB now. But, enough chit chat. Here are a few more pictures for your viewing pleasure. Continue reading this article

Free Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow UMD demo

Posted by Brandon Spencer
Syphon Filter Logan’s Shadow demo

Everyone seems to be thankful when we post an alert about a new PSP demo (ala the insanely popular God of War demo). So here’s a new one for ya. This offer came to me through the PlayStation Underground, so I thought I’d pass it along.

You can now get your hands on a free UMD demo of Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow. You can sign up to receive the Logan’s Shadow demo here. You will need to sign in with your Underground username/password. Don’t worry if you’re not a member yet - you can register there for free.

There’s no word on when you will get your demo disc. The God of War demo isn’t going to ship until the end of the summer, so the Logan’s Shadow disc may not arrive until fall.

In any case, act as quickly as possible. This offer is in limited supply.
