Custom PSP packs spotted
First, Sony pulled the plug on the short-lived “Giga Pack” - a $299 bundle that included a PSP system, 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, USB Cable, headphones, sleeve, and PSP stand. Then the Value Pack was phased out.
Now, retailers are trying to clear their stock of the “Entertainment Bundle” due to poor sales. The Entertainment Bundle includes a PSP system, one PSP game, a UMD movie, and a 1GB memory stick for $219.99.
However, it looks like retailers are coming up with their own solution. Most stores are now exclusively selling the PSP Core package, and offering a separate accessory bundle for an additional $50.
I first noticed this trend last week while I was browsing the games at my local Fred Meyers department store. The store now offers a “PSP Mega Pack” that includes a Memory Stick, case, and headphones among other accessories for a decent $50. Target, Walmart, Gamestop, and Game Crazy also seem to be picking up on this trend.
Looks like Sony’s plan to offer “deluxe” versions of the PS3 and PSP didn’t work out as well as they’d hoped.
