Live from the 2007 Square Enix Party

Square Enix Party

Square Enix is throwing their huge annual party in Tokyo, Japan this weekend. Today is the first day of the party, with the event concluding Monday evening. Exciting new information about upcoming Square titles has already been announced.

First, more Dissidia information has been released. Our suspicions were correct - the game is a Soul Calibur-like brawler featuring different characters from the Final Fantasy series. The character list has been expanded as well, now including Warrior of Light and Garland from the FFI, Cecil and Kain from Final Fantasy IV, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, and Zidane Tribal and Kuja from Final Fantasy IX. Chaos will also make an appearance as the god of darkness, and newcomer “Cosmos” will appear as the goddess of light.

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core has also been given a solid release date of September 13th for Japan. No word of a US/EU release yet, but I assume we’ll see it by mid-October or early November.

The lucky few that managed to get press passes to the event have all had a chance to play an exclusive new demo of Crisis Core as well. The good news is that the game has received nothing but positive feedback so far. IGN was one of those lucky few: “Today at the Final Fantasy Anniversary party in Makuhari Japan, Square-Enix showed-off two new missions Crisis Core missions at the Closed Mega Theatre. Fans lined up for hours to get a taste. We managed to dip in and see for ourselves what all the fuss was about…

In our first Crisis Core hands-on last December, Anoop explain how technically marvelous the game is. Let me piggy back on that by say he is unequivocally right. This is the watershed game that genuinely demonstrates just how powerful the PSP is.” [full article]

We’ll recap the events as the party continues over the weekend.
