PSP Firmware 3.40 tomorrow

Just shortly after the release of firmware 3.30, Sony is already ready to release another update - v3.40. The new firmware will include normal security updates as well as game, RSS, and video updates.

The rumors all started when the Korean PSP website was updated for firmware 3.40. The most interesting tidbit in the announcement was for the PlayStation Network. I’m uncertain whether the PSP is getting a new Network feature here, or if the website is just referring to new PS1 titles.

Another interesting update is that the “Certificate Utility” tool, previously available in the XMB, will now be hidden. Apparently the certificates will be embedded directly into PlayStation Network titles.

Firmware 3.40 is stated for release tomorrow. Sony is known for releasing updates on the network first, so if you turn on your PSP tonight you may be able to upgrade early using Network Update. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s released.
