Why Sony scrapped movie downloads
PSP owners were pumped when Sony announced their plans for a PSP download service with music, movies, games, and more. The service, which would offer full-resolution downloadable movies for a small fee, never happened because Sony was worried about piracy and how to incorporate DRM into the files.
However, they did update their Music Connect service for PSP users. But it’s still no PlayStation Store. There was some discussion about the issue at GDC last week. Apparently, the PSP store fell through the cracks due to lack of support from the major studios.
Would you be willing to pay $5-10 to download a high-res movie to your PSP? Certainly it would be more economical than UMD movies.
