Monster Hunter Portable 2 is number 1

Capcom’s monster bashing sequel for the PSP, Monster Hunter Portable 2, is selling wonders in Japan.

I predicted that the game would sell well over a million copies. MHP2 sold 500,000 units on the first day alone. We knew it would do well in Japan, but the software sales are out and we’re shocked. Sales have already passed 750,000 mark, claiming the number one spot on the sales chart for Japan.

Monster Hunter sales chart

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd is followed by the PS2 game Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri, Fire Emblem Wii in third, and Sim City DS in fourth. Taking a look farther down the chart, it’s clear that Wii and DS software sales are dominating. However, it’s good to know that the PSP can claim a spot at the top of the chart once in a while. Not only is MHP2 at the top, it’s miles ahead of everything else - 750,000 units vs 90,000! That’s insane.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how well Monster Hunter Freedom 2 does when it comes to Europe this September.
