First look: Tomb Raider Anniversary

Lara Croft Tomb Raider for the PS1

The original Tomb Raider was an instant classic that defined the action/platformer genre for years to come. Lara Croft quickly became Sony’s poster girl, alongside other characters like Crash Bandicoot. Unfortunately, recent sequels in the Tomb Raider franchise have been a sore embarrassment to Lara Croft’s name.

The newest Tomb Raider game - Tomb Raider Anniversary - will be available for both PS2 and PSP (no PS3 love?). Even though no one has had a chance to get their hands on Tomb Raider Anniversary yet, the premise sounds promising. The game is a complete remake of the original Tomb Raider. Lara will jump, swing, and climb through her first adventure with a graphical overhaul, new weapons, new audio score, updated control scheme, and even a few new easter eggs.

If you’re a longtime Croft fan, you can’t miss this one. And if you’re new to the series, this is the time to jump in. Check out the trailer and decide for yourself.
