PS1 Emulation on PSP is here!

The PS3 was launched in Japan last week, and in the U.S. last night. The hype of the PS3 has overshadowed some exciting things coming to the PSP — particularly PS1 emulation.

The Japanese launch of the PS3 also included an update to Sony’s new online service, which now offers downloadable PS1 games for the PSP. These include:
Bio Hazard Director’s Cut
Konami Antiques MSX Collection V1
Konami Antiques MSX Collection V2
BishiBashi Special
Arc the Lad
Jumping Flash! Aloha Danshaku Funky Daisensou no maki
Minna no Golf 2
Silent Bomber
Tekken 2
Mister Driller

Unfortunantly, none of them will be playable until Sony releases firmware to support the games. Sony is releasing a PSP update sometime next week, and sources say it will be v3.0 and include a PS1 emulator. Hopefully these are reliable sources.

Little is known about what exactly Sony has brewing in their North American online service, but I assume they will have PS1 games available for download if not already.
